Description

The Uganda National Oil Company (UNOC) is the state-owned national oil company of the Republic of Uganda, established to manage and commercialize the Government of Uganda’s petroleum interests across the upstream, midstream, and downstream segments of the sector. UNOC was incorporated as a limited liability company on June 12, 2015, under the Companies Act of 2012 following provisions in Uganda’s Petroleum (Exploration, Development and Production) Act and associated petroleum legislation.

UNOC’s core mandate is to sustainably develop and manage the State’s commercial interests in the petroleum industry, including participation in joint ventures, project development, and new venture exploration. It also seeks to cultivate in-depth expertise in oil and gas operations while creating long-term value for Uganda’s socio-economic transformation.

The company operates through key subsidiaries such as the Uganda Refinery Holding Company Ltd (URHC), managing equity in the planned national refinery project, and the National Pipeline Company (NPC), which oversees strategic pipeline and storage infrastructure. UNOC also holds state interests in major regional infrastructure, including the East African Crude Oil Pipeline (EACOP), and participates in initiatives to enhance refining, storage, and petroleum product supply chains.

For investors and industry partners, UNOC offers a significant engagement platform in Uganda’s emerging oil and gas sector, providing access to commercial opportunities across exploration, midstream infrastructure, refining participation, and petroleum product trading. The company’s strategic role in national energy projects positions it as a central institutional counterpart in unlocking Uganda’s hydrocarbon potential and contributing to broader regional energy integration.
